Team news, stats and prediction ahead of Manchester City vs Tottenham in the Premier League.
Team news
Midfielder Fernandinho is back in contention as Manchester City have close to a fully-fit squad available for Saturday's Premier League clash with Tottenham. The Brazilian missed last week's opener against West Ham having returned to
training late following international duty.
Winger Leroy Sane is the only major absentee as he awaits knee surgery while left-back Benjamin Mendy is unlikely to be involved as he builds up match fitness.
Tottenham are still without hamstring injury victims Dele Alli and Ryan Sessegnon.
Juan Foyth and Son Heung-min are both suspended but Spurs are otherwise at full strength.
Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen are vying for starts while Giovani Lo Celso could be on the bench following his deadline day move from Real Betis.
Welcome to watch FOX Teen Choice Awards 2019 Live Online. Venue: Los Angeles, Location: Los Angeles, Event Date: 08/11/2019 This award show was born from the desire to give teenagers a way to celebrate their favorites, more than what the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards has to offer, and closer to how MTV does these shows. The bottom line is that the most famous stars across the United States take part in the show, present awards or win them, perform or host. In 2018, for instance, Nick Cannon and Lele Pons hosted the event, while Meghan Trainor, Bebe Rexha, and Khalid were among the performers.
This is the 21st staging of the Teen Choice Awards; Bain’s production company has put on every single one. And while the acts have changed over the years, the show remains a cultural touchstone.
“We tend to get these acts on the trajectory, on their way up, which I think is one of the reasons why we get a lot of traction from the younger acts. I think they see this as a kind of stepping stone to broader pop culture recognizability,” Bain said.
This is true even though the awards are taking place in a time of rapid change in the entertainment industry. As always, this year’s awards will be broadcast live nationally, on Fox. According to reports from industry publications, last year’s telecast of the Teen Choice Awards marked a nadir in its historical Nielsen ratings; viewership fell more than 40 percent from the year before. But this figure likely says as much about the way television ratings are measured as it does about the popularity of the show. The standard Nielsen metric examines the 18 to 49 demographic, almost all of whom are not, well, teens.
More significantly, the awards are targeted at people who spend plenty of time staring at screens, but whose viewing habits may not be well tallied by traditional methods. Deadline Hollywood reported that, although television viewing dropped for last year’s awards, Twitter volume about the show increased 72 percent. Bain described Teen Choice as “a platform that is broadcast on television to an audience that doesn’t watch television.” This creates complications from a finance perspective because, as many eyes as there may be on social media, Facebook and Google harvest almost all of the associated advertising revenue. As a result, even as the show strives for cultural freshness, it remains closely linked to the old school broadcast medium, and the associated commercials that can be sold.
For Hermosa, this means that the awards are sandwiched amid an already packed calendar of summer beach events. In late May, when Hermosa’s City Council was voting in a special meeting on whether to approve the awards, one councilmember asked whether it might be possible to hold the awards at a later date, perhaps in September. It was not, Bain responded: the awards will always have a mid-August date because of the need for the broadcast to coincide with the back-to-school shopping season.
For Bain and others attempting to tap in to an occasionally confounding media market, it means conscripting stars in an attempt to “migrate” the young audience from social media toward the broadcast. These celebrities use social media to announce their appearance and boost their own profile, which in turn draws eyes to TV. Like a nightclub that manages to stay packed through the discerning choices of its bouncer, the awards are above all a place to be seen.
